Deposit security fee
3.5% of deposit · min $2 · max $25Covers the secure management of your refundable deposit via Stripe. Refunded if you cancel before the owner accepts. Non-refundable once the rental is ongoing.
Taxes

✅ Incident-free return
The deposit is fully refunded to your payment method. The return delay depends on Stripe's processing and your bank — allow 5 to 10 business days, sometimes longer depending on your institution.
⚠️ Incident reported
The owner reports the incident on the platform. Toolsy opens a case and arbitrates the partial or full refund.
Cancellation policy
Once funds are captured, Stripe retains its processing fees. Here's exactly what is refunded in each scenario.
👤 Cancellation by the renter
Before owner acceptance: no fee, full refund.
Once the rental is ongoing: the rental amount is refunded minus Stripe processing fees (~2.9% + $0.30 CAD) and the deposit security fee (retained by Toolsy).
Less than 24 hours before start: cancellation not available through the platform.
The refundable deposit is always returned in full, regardless of when you cancel.
🏪 Cancellation by the owner
Rejection before acceptance: no amount is charged, the order is cancelled at no cost to the renter.
Cancellation after acceptance: the renter is refunded 100%, including the deposit security fee. Toolsy covers the Stripe fees.
The deposit is always fully refunded when the owner cancels.

The service fee (20%) is charged to the renter. The owner receives 100% of the rate they set.
